About Us
The Health Informatics Knowledge Management ACM Chapter is a forum for interaction and information sharing within the Australasian Health Informatics academic and research sector.
For the past two decades, Australia has convened regional scientific meetings for Health Informatics computing including the HIKM series of conferences.
The HIKM ACM Chapter provides a forum for emerging and established researchers to present their work and encourage presentation and publishing of peer reviewed papers in the ACM Digital Library.

Statement of Purpose
The HIKM ACM Chapter provides an accessible and inclusive channel for dialogue and information sharing amongst emerging and established administrators, clinicians, educators, practitioners, researchers and technologists.
Emphasis will be given to involvement in academic and scientific endeavours, with creation of opportunities for knowledge development and exchange in peer-peer and novice-expert networking settings.
ACM Relationship
The Association for Computing Machinery is the largest and oldest global community of computing professionals and students with nearly 100,000 members in more than 170 countries interacting with more than 2 million computing professionals worldwide.
ACM’s Mission is to help computing professionals to be their best and most creative. ACM connects them to their peers, to what the latest developments, inspires them to advance the profession and makes a positive impact on society.
ACM’s Vision is a world where computing helps solve tomorrow’s problems – where we use our knowledge and skills to advance the computing profession and make a positive social impact throughout the world.
Our Chapter’s Charter
The HIKM ACM Chapter operates for educational and scientific purposes to promote:
(a) increased knowledge of and interest in modern computing in relation to healthcare;
(b) greater interest in computing applications;
(c) a means of communication among those interested in computing.
Membership is open to all wishing to participate actively in these goals in the area of Health Informatics Knowledge Management. The Chapter is based in Melbourne, Australia but international members are welcome.
The HIKM ACM Chapter Members annually elect the leadership to oversee operations in line with the ACM mission and vision.
Activities
The HIKM ACM Chapter events cover a wide range of computing topics of current high relevance in Health Informatics generally to foster outreach and collaboration
Typical events will include lectures, seminars and workshops on specific topics, exposure to prominent local and international presenters. Involvement of students and early career professionals is encouraged with coaching and mentoring opportunities.
It is anticipated that the HIKM ACM Chapter will provide scholarly commentary on Health Informatics issues and proposed policies, which may involve engagement in high level forums and production of reports and position papers.

Costs / Obligations
Membership in the HIKM ACM Chapter is free.
Members are expected to engage in events, contribute to discussions, and support the advancement of knowledge through collaboration and scholarly activity.
